How to choose a sunscreen for oily skin?

One of the major problems for a person with oily skin is finding a good sunscreen.Sunscreen tends to clog pores, which results in acne on your face, shoulders, and back. Today, there are many sunscreens which are specially manufactured for people who have oily skin.

How to choose the perfect sunscreen for oily skin:

  • First, check to see if your skin is oily. If you see that your skin is shiny throughout the day (not just at the end), then you most likely have oily skin. This means you need to use a sunscreen that is specifically formulated for oily skin.
  • Before buying a sunscreen, look at the packaging to see if it is oil-free. Usually, it will say “oil-free” on the tube, as well as “non comedogenic.” This means the sunscreen won’t add any extra oils to you skin, and also won’t cause breakouts.
  • If you sweat a lot, or plan on going swimming, then try to get a gel-based sunscreen, as it will not rinse off as easily as a water-based sunscreen.
  • You also want to check the SPF level. If you are darker skinned, use a SPF 15 or 20, as lower SPFs have lower amounts of oils. If you are fair skinned and can’t get away with a lower SPF, wear at least an SPF 40.While reducing the amount of oils you put on your body is great, protection from the sun comes first!
  • Make sure you always remove sunscreen from your face and body before going to sleep at night. This will help to preventing the clogging of pores, which will inevitably lead to acne.
  • Remember to plan your budget properly, as sunscreen for oily skin is a little more expensive than regular sunscreens.
  • If you cannot find a sunscreen that works well with your oily skin, you can always make a visit to the dermatologist. Dermatologists know exactly which products work best for those with oily skin, and they will be able to give you the names of a few sunscreen products to try.
