Since bursting onto the scene in 1990, RituBeri has made quite a name for herself. She graduated from Delhi University and completed her fashion designing course at the National Institute of Fashion Technology where she now serves on the board of Governers. Ritu started her career with Lavanya, which made graduation collection a complete success both in India as well as in the international market. She is one of the first Indian designers whose collection was presented in Paris and the first Indian designer to be featured in Acustyl magazine. Her designs and work are highly recognized in Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Paris, London and USA with clients ranging from Bill Clinton to LaetitiaCasta. Having penned the novel 101 Ways to LookGood, she is certainly one Indian designer who has made it big at an early age.

Rina Dhaka

Known for her theme collections featuring western wear, sheer seperates and spider web motifs, Rina Dhaka is a big name in India’s fashion arena. In late 1980 she stepped into the fashion world. Rina Dhaka is well known and counted as one of the most innovative and creative designers in India. Her work has been featured in international magazines such as Vogue and Elle. She has been awarded with the YuvRattan Award. Her shows are held in many international cities like Hong Kong, Jakarta, Singapore, Dubai, New York, Paris and London. Today her designs are available at different places like Kimaya inMumbai, Carma inDelhi, Coin inItaly, Lord and Taylor inNew York and Selfridges inLondon. “I personally feel fashion for women is about giving options. It is about severity and seduction.” Rina responded to the allegation that her clothes were too revealing.


In 1996 he was given the title of ‘India’s Master of Fabric and Fantasy’ by Time magazine. He earned his degree in History from Delhi’s St. Stephen’s College. In 1990 he first created his own line and since then he didn’t look back. His clients included celebrities like Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbel, Pamela Anderson, Anna Kournikova and Uma Thurman. He has been the brand ambassador for Omega watches since 2001 and most of his shows in New York, Paris, Singapore, and Delhi have been sponsored by the Swatch Group. Known for his peacock and lotus motifs, He designs fashions for men and women as well as jewelry. He now has stores in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Chennai.

Manish Arora

This Indian designer is known for his colorful fashion shows. In 1997 he first launched his brand Manish Arora. He launched his second collection named Fish Fry which was highly acclaimed both in India and internationally. He has worked with Reebok and Swatch and has won numerous awards. In 2002 he opened his flagship store ‘Manish Arora Fish Fry’ and now owns four stores in India. You can also find his collections in over 80 retailers worldwide.

Ritu Kumar

My list would not be complete if I didn’ttalk about this fashion diva. Ritu Kumar is a big name in the Indianfashion industry. She is known for her unique style. In her work one can find Indian craftsmanship in a contemporary style. Her designs have connected modernity with traditionalism. She is also designing attire for three winners of Miss India, for their participation in Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss Asia Pacific.
