Hair-Care Tips for Summer

Summer months induce frizzy, dry hair. Hot weather does more damage to your hair than you can imagine. The reality is unlike Hollywood flicks where wind-blown hair of actresses look beautiful; the reality is that soaring temperatures can make your hair brittle or result in split ends—unless you take care of it.

How to protect your hair from the harshness of summer:

  • Protect your hair from the sun’s ultraviolet rays and make a fashion statement by wearing summery hats or scarves.
  • Don’t regularly blow dry or curl your hair in summer as weakens it. Let it dry naturally instead. If you are after curly hair, try braiding it when it’s wet. Undo your braids when your hair has dried and it will have a soft, bouncy curl.
  • If you will be out in the sun for a long time, apply rinse-out hair conditioner to ensure added shine and moisture.
  • You can protect your hair from direct sunlight by tying it up in a bun, a ponytail or braids. Keeping your hair loose will result in dry hair.
  • For a hot towel treatment, massage warm oil into your hair before going to bed and keep it in throughout the night by wearing a shower cap. In the morning, wrap a warm, damp towel around your head, as you would after washing your hair in the shower. Keep her hair covered for a while before rinsing your hair. This treatment opens and cleanses the pores of your scalp and makes your hair stronger.
  • If your hair strands become rough and brittle during summer, try jojoba oil. It works well for treating frizzy hair, and should be used before applying shampoo.

Follow the tips that work best for you to keep your hair soft and shiny throughout the summer months. It only takes few minutes to do an oil massage or to tie your hair up in a bun to protect your tresses from the heat.
